Since 2010 the Clermont Draft Legal Challenge, co-founded by Jarrod Shoemaker, has attracted top talent with a series of 9 draft-legal races over one weekend – including an ITU elite race and U25 Elite Development races. It doesn’t hurt that Clermont is perhaps the triathlon mecca of the Southeastern United States, with plenty of sunshine, warmth, rolling hills, and calm lakes. The Clermont, FL race is part of the CAMTRI American Cup Series (CAMTRI = Confederación Americana de Triatlón, or the American Triathlon Confederation), which will also host the ITU Sarasota Pan American Cup race and ITU Mixed Team Relay Competition in Sarasota, FL next weekend, March 12-13.
Clermont offers athletes a $10k total prize purse, split evenly between elite men/women:
1st – $1,500 USD
2nd – $1,250 USD
3rd – $1,000 USD
4th – $750 USD
5th – $500 USD
Highlights of the day included Americans on top of both podiums: Ben Kanute in the men’s race, and Taylor Knibb in the women’s race (with Sarah Haskins just 10 seconds behind her in 2nd.) Check out the photo gallery, top athletes’ splits, and U25 results below!
